The James B. Beam Distillery

Jim-Beam The James B. Beam Distillery

When it comes to American whiskey, few names resonate as strongly as Jim Beam.

Nestled in the picturesque rolling hills of Clermont, Kentucky, the Jim Beam Distillery stands as a testament to the rich heritage and craftsmanship that defines bourbon. With a legacy that spans over two centuries, Jim Beam has become synonymous with quality bourbon, making it a must-visit destination for enthusiasts and casual visitors alike. In this blog, we’ll explore the history, production process, and experiences that await you at the Jim Beam Distillery.

A Rich History

The story of Jim Beam begins in 1795 when Jacob Beam first started distilling bourbon. His dedication to producing high-quality whiskey laid the foundation for what would become one of the most iconic brands in the world. The Beam family has been at the forefront of bourbon production for generations, navigating challenges like Prohibition while maintaining their commitment to quality and tradition.

Today, Jim Beam is owned by Beam Suntory and remains a family-owned operation at heart. The distillery has grown from a small family business into a global icon, producing a range of bourbons that cater to various tastes, including Jim Beam White Label, Jim Beam Black Label, and more experimental releases.

Touring the Distillery

The Jim Beam Distillery provides a variety of tour options, each designed to immerse visitors in the bourbon-making process. Here are just a couple of the tours:

Beam Made Bourbon Distillery Tour & Tasting

The Beam Made Bourbon Tour is a 75-minute adventure featuring the Hardest Working Still in America where Jim Beam®, Basil Hayden®, and Knob Creek® are made.

Tour Features:

  • Behind the barrel look at Beam Made Bourbons, from Beam’s signature yeast strain to the grain that goes into the World’s #1 Bourbon.
  • An immersive journey through the Beam Made Bourbon process with hands-on exhibits covering everything from distillation to maturation.
  • A trip through T-Line, Knob Creek’s single barrel bottling line where guests will have the opportunity to fill their own personalized Knob Creek Single Barrel bottle.
  • Tasting of the World's #1 Bourbon and other brands from the James B. Beam Distilling Co. portfolio

Maturation Matters Warehouse Experience

Walk through one of the historic warehouses at James B. Beam Distilling Co. and see for yourself how bourbons age. In Maturation Matters, you’ll learn the Beam way of barrel aging, selection methodology, and why each batch of Beam Made Bourbon has a flavor distinct profile. You’ll see how rackhouse placement and the Kentucky climate affect maturing liquid, and you’ll enjoy bourbon straight from three different barrels of Jim Beam White Label to demonstrate the effect age has on taste profile.

Fred B. Noe Distillery Innovation Tour

You will begin your tour in the American Outpost before heading to the Fred B. Noe distillery. Here you will see behind the scenes in our production facility before partaking in a tasting featuring products of prestige and innovation. Closed-toed shoes are required for this tour. The Jim Beam Restaurant:

The Kitchen Table Restaurant - A Culinary Delight

After exploring the distillery, guests can indulge in a culinary experience at The Kitchen Table Restaurant. The restaurant offers a menu inspired by Kentucky cuisine, featuring fresh, locally sourced ingredients.  2 of my favorites were the Duck Poppers and the Wild Mushroom Pizza.

Craft Cocktails and Tasting Flights

The bar features an extensive selection of Jim Beam bourbons, offering tasting flights and craft cocktails that highlight the versatility of bourbon. Signature cocktails like the Jim Beam Old Fashioned or the Kentucky Mule allow guests to experience the spirit in new and exciting ways.

Events and Special Experiences

Throughout the year, the Jim Beam Distillery hosts special events, including bourbon tastings, cooking classes, and seasonal festivals. These events are perfect for those looking to deepen their understanding of bourbon and Kentucky culture while enjoying the camaraderie of fellow bourbon enthusiasts.

It’s open year-round, and guests are encouraged to book tours in advance, especially during peak tourist seasons.
